Erik Olsen is a senior scientist and heads the Research Program for Oil and Fish at the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen, Norway.  He has a background as a fisheries biologist (PhD), but has since 2002 focused his research and advisory activities on marine spatial management by participating in developing the integrated and area-based management plans for the Barents Sea and Norwegian sea. Key research areas within MSP have been the identification of ecologically valuable areas, areas of conflict of interest, the role of governance and cumulative vulnerability of ecosystem components to human use.
